Central Highlands Historical Association [CHHA] is a vital link in the regional history network being the umbrella association for over 30 historical societies, museums and family history organisations in the central highlands region of Victoria. CHHA continues to be an active and innovative organisation. It is represented at Local and State levels on matters of joint concern to its members.

The CHHA  was Formed in 1984 and the inaugural meeting was held on Saturday 23 June 1984, at the Ballarat City Library in Camp Street, Ballarat.

The purposes (2021) of the association are:

  1. To advocate the importance of history, culture, and heritage to its members and the wider community, including through representation on advisory committees, at local and state levels (e.g., RHSV, VAFHO, Council Heritage committees, Cemetery Trusts, the press).
  1. To provide support and assistance to its members from a community of like-minded individuals, many of whom are experienced and/or professional people, on such matters as support for grant applications.
  1. To provide a liaison/negotiating capability between the Association and Government organizations.
  1. To provide a forum for sharing information, through such means as newsletters, quarterly meetings and an internet presence (e.g., Facebook, CHHA website).
  1. To participate in or support activities, such as undertaking relevant historical research aimed at the preservation or conservation of places, sites and objects considered by the Membership to be of historical significance.

~~~~~~~~~~
The common bond that unites societies is the sharing of ideas, projects, problems, and resources. From 1984 CHHA has held expos, produced journals, implemented Displan (plan for any potential disasters such as bush fires, floods and so on), and held open days and workshops. Member societies support other members in their endeavours and a wonderful feeling of cooperation from like minded individuals has existed for nearly 40 years.
~~~~~~~~~~

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND! Quarterly general meetings are held to which all are welcome. The meetings are at different venues and different societies. This gives other members the opportunity to exchange information about what they are doing, about the various regions, and the local history. A meal is held at  a local venue, followed by a tour of local hertitage sites.

    1. Good afternoon. Am.i able to buy any copies of the central highlands historical journal? After coming across volume 2 1994 in a used book store , I have thoroughly enjoyed it’s contents and wish to purchase more. Are you able to assist me with this?
      I would be very grateful
      Yours kindly

      1. Hello Elizabeth, I think some of the societies still have copies of the journal for sale. It’s a great journal with some really good articles. Regards Dot Wickham
